Birmingham Police Investigate Fatal Shooting of 30-Year-Old Anson Henderson in Collegeville Neighborhood
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham Police Department is actively investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of 30-year-old Anson Quandarius Henderson early Saturday morning, November 8, 2025, in the city’s Collegeville neighborhood. The incident has left family members and residents heartbroken as authorities work to determine what led to the tragedy.
According to a statement released by Birmingham Police, officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of 2nd Street North around 2:15 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a male victim—later identified as Henderson—lying unresponsive on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene, but despite life-saving efforts, Henderson was pronounced passed a short time later.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity and time of passing. Investigators immediately secured the area, collecting shell casings and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses. Police believe the shooting may have taken place following a confrontation, but no arrests have been made at this time.
Witnesses in the area told officers they heard several shots followed by the sound of a vehicle speeding away. Detectives from the BPD Homicide Unit are now canvassing the neighborhood for additional witnesses and leads.
“Our detectives are working diligently to piece together what happened,” said Officer Truman Fitzgerald, spokesperson for the Birmingham Police Department. “We’re asking anyone who may have seen or heard something, or who has video footage, to come forward and assist in this investigation.”
The Collegeville neighborhood, located just north of downtown Birmingham, has experienced sporadic violence in recent years, but community leaders say this latest incident has hit especially hard. Henderson, described by friends as a friendly and hardworking man, was known for his bright personality and deep ties to the local community.
“He was a good person with a big heart,” said a family friend who visited the scene Saturday afternoon. “He didn’t deserve this. We just want justice and answers.”
Police said the investigation is still in its early stages, and detectives are working to determine a motive. They have not ruled out the possibility that Henderson knew his assailant. Crime scene investigators spent several hours at the location collecting evidence, including bullet fragments and potential fingerprints.
Community advocates are urging residents to cooperate with investigators. “We must stand together and speak up when violence strikes our neighborhoods,” said local pastor Reverend James Allen. “Anson’s life mattered, and silence will not bring peace.”
The Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Stoppers division is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
Anyone with tips is urged to contact the Birmingham Police Homicide Unit at (205) 254-1764 or submit anonymous information through Crime Stoppers at (205) 254-7777.
As the investigation continues, friends and family are planning a candlelight vigil in memory of Anson Quandarius Henderson to celebrate his life and call for an end to senseless violence.
