Birmingham Police Investigate Tragic Collegeville Shooting That Claimed Life of Anson Quandarius Henderson

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham Police Department has launched an investigation into a tragic early morning shooting that resulted in the passing of 30-year-old Anson Quandarius Henderson on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in the city’s Collegeville neighborhood. The heartbreaking incident has left family, friends, and community members mourning a life remembered for its warmth and promise.

According to authorities, officers from the East Precinct responded to reports of gunfire around 6:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of 36th Avenue North. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim, later identified as Henderson, lying unresponsive on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced Henderson as having passed at the scene shortly afterward. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity.

Investigators say preliminary evidence suggests Henderson may have been targeted, though the motive remains unclear. Detectives with the Birmingham Police Department’s Homicide Unit spent much of the morning processing the scene, collecting shell casings, and reviewing nearby surveillance footage. Officers also canvassed the neighborhood, speaking with witnesses who might have heard or seen anything suspicious.

At this stage, no arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could help bring closure to Henderson’s grieving family. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

Residents of the Collegeville area expressed both sadness and frustration over yet another incident of gun violence. Several community members described waking up to the sound of sirens and seeing the area blocked off by police tape.

“It’s heartbreaking,” said a longtime neighbor. “We’re tired of waking up to tragedy. This young man didn’t deserve this — his life mattered.”

Family members of Anson Henderson shared memories of a man they described as loyal, kind-hearted, and dedicated to his loved ones. Friends said he was known for his easygoing nature and sense of humor, and that he had been working hard to build a better future for himself and his family.

“He had such a big heart,” said one relative. “He loved his family and friends deeply. It hurts to know we’ll never see his smile again.”

In response to the incident, local faith leaders and community organizations have called for renewed efforts to address the root causes of violence in Birmingham. Several plan to hold a candlelight vigil later this week in Collegeville to honor Henderson’s memory and call for peace.

“This city has lost another bright light,” said Pastor Raymond Carter of the Collegeville Community Church. “We must come together — not just to mourn, but to heal and to act.”

As investigators continue to piece together what happened, the Henderson family and the Collegeville community are united in grief — and in their determination to see justice served.
