FDNY Mourns Firefighter Patrick Brady, Veteran Who Passed During Brooklyn Fire Response
NEW YORK CITY — November 8, 2025 — The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady, a beloved 11-year veteran who passed in the line of duty while bravely responding to a fire in Brooklyn. Brady, 42, suffered cardiac arrest while operating at the scene, marking a deeply sorrowful day for the FDNY and the city he served with unwavering dedication.
According to FDNY officials, the incident occurred on Saturday morning, when firefighters were dispatched to a working fire in a multi-story residential building in Brooklyn’s Borough Park neighborhood. Brady, assigned to Engine Company 243, was actively engaged in firefighting operations when he suddenly collapsed inside the structure. Fellow firefighters and emergency medical personnel immediately began life-saving measures before rushing him to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was later pronounced as having passed.
The Department confirmed his passing with profound grief, describing Brady as “a firefighter who embodied courage, loyalty, and compassion — both in uniform and in life.”
FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh released a statement, saying, “Firefighter Patrick Brady represented the best of what it means to serve New York City. For 11 years, he dedicated his life to protecting others, always putting his community before himself. His passing is a devastating loss for his family, his colleagues, and for all New Yorkers.”
Flags across all FDNY firehouses and city buildings have been ordered to fly at half-staff in his honor. Colleagues who worked alongside Brady remembered him as a selfless leader, always willing to mentor younger firefighters and offer support to anyone in need.
“He wasn’t just a firefighter — he was the heart of our company,” said one colleague. “Pat always had a smile on his face, even on the toughest calls. He made us all better.”
Brady joined the FDNY in 2014 and quickly earned respect for his calm demeanor under pressure and commitment to teamwork. Over his 11-year career, he responded to hundreds of emergencies across the five boroughs, saving lives and property in some of the city’s most dangerous situations.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa, and their two children. Family members shared that firefighting was his lifelong calling and that he took immense pride in serving the people of New York. “He loved his job and the people he worked with,” said his brother. “He wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else.”
The Uniformed Firefighters Association and the FDNY Counseling Unit are providing support to Brady’s colleagues and family as they navigate the difficult days ahead. Funeral arrangements are currently being finalized, and a line-of-duty memorial service will be held later this week to honor his bravery and sacrifice.
As New York City mourns, Firefighter Patrick Brady will be remembered not only for his service but for his kindness, humility, and the courage that defined his life. His legacy will forever burn bright in the hearts of those he protected.
