Birmingham Police Investigate Collegeville Shooting That Claims Life of 30-Year-Old Resident

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham Police Department has launched an active investigation into a tragic shooting that resulted in the passing of 30-year-old Anson Quandarius Henderson early Saturday morning, November 8, 2025, in the city’s Collegeville neighborhood.

According to authorities, officers from the East Precinct were dispatched to the 2900 block of 33rd Place North just after 2:30 a.m., following reports of multiple gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, police discovered Henderson lying unresponsive in the street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded quickly, but despite life-saving efforts, Henderson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives immediately began canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with potential witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses. Preliminary findings suggest that Henderson may have been involved in an altercation shortly before the shooting, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation.

Police have not released information about a possible suspect or motive, but they confirmed that the shooting does not appear to be random. Investigators are currently pursuing several leads and working to determine whether the incident may have been connected to an ongoing dispute.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Anson Quandarius Henderson, a resident of Birmingham known among friends and family for his upbeat personality and strong connection to his community. Loved ones have described him as a devoted son, friend, and mentor who always encouraged others to strive for better.

Residents of the Collegeville neighborhood expressed shock and sadness over the news, with many saying the area has seen a recent increase in violence that has left the community on edge. “Anson was a good person,” one neighbor said. “He didn’t deserve this. Our neighborhood needs peace — too many young people are being lost.”

Detective Sergeant LaQuinta Wade of the Birmingham Police Department’s Homicide Division emphasized that the department is treating the case with urgency. “We are committed to finding out what happened and bringing justice to Mr. Henderson’s family,” Wade said. “We’re asking anyone with information to come forward. Even the smallest detail can make a difference.”

Henderson’s family has requested privacy as they grieve the unexpected loss of their loved one. Community members have already begun planning a candlelight vigil in his honor, to be held later this week at a nearby park in Collegeville.

This incident marks one of several violent episodes in Birmingham over the past month, highlighting ongoing challenges the city faces with gun-related crime. Officials have urged residents to speak out and assist police in their efforts to reduce violence and promote community safety.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Birmingham Police Department Homicide Unit at 205-254-1764 or remain anonymous by reaching out to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
