Michigan McDonald’s Customer Throws Hot Coffee at Manager During Heated Argument, Police Identify Suspect

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A heated confrontation inside a Michigan McDonald’s turned violent when a customer threw a cup of hot coffee at a restaurant manager. The incident, captured on surveillance video, has since gone viral after being posted by the Buena Vista Township Police Department on social media.

The altercation occurred inside a McDonald’s restaurant in Buena Vista Township, though authorities have not released the exact date. On November 4, police shared the video on Facebook, asking the public to help identify the woman involved. Within 48 hours, officials confirmed that thanks to numerous tips, the suspect had been successfully identified.

“Thank you for all the quick responses,” police wrote in an updated post on November 6. “We have the suspect identified.”

The short but intense video clip shows a customer standing at the counter in what appears to be a dispute over a transaction or refund. The woman can be heard angrily telling the manager, “I’m glad I’m calling corporate,” as the conversation escalates. The manager, maintaining composure, replies, “Refunds will take up to 48 hours,” apparently attempting to explain store policy.

Moments later, the customer becomes visibly agitated and, in an outburst of frustration, throws her cup of hot coffee directly at the manager. The liquid splashes across the counter as the manager reacts in shock and pain. The video ends shortly afterward, leaving viewers disturbed by the sudden act of aggression.

Though it is not clear what started the argument, police believe it stemmed from a dispute involving a refund or payment issue. Fortunately, the manager was not reported to have sustained serious injuries.

The Buena Vista Township Police Department is now handling the case and working with the restaurant’s management to determine if charges will be filed. Detectives have not released the woman’s name publicly but confirmed that she will likely face charges related to assault.

Detective Pahssen of the Buena Vista Police Department is leading the investigation. Authorities have asked anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the detective directly at (989) 577-9583.

The viral video has sparked a strong public response online, with many community members expressing outrage over the customer’s behavior and commending the manager for remaining calm during the heated exchange. Others called for stricter consequences for those who assault service industry workers.

Incidents involving violence toward fast-food employees have become an increasing concern across the country. In many cases, disputes over service or order mistakes have escalated into physical altercations. Law enforcement agencies continue to remind the public that such acts can result in serious criminal charges.

The McDonald’s franchise where the event occurred has not released a formal statement but is believed to be cooperating fully with authorities in the ongoing investigation.

Police said the case serves as a reminder to treat workers with respect and patience. “No disagreement justifies violence,” one officer noted in response to online comments.
