Two Kaplan Residents Pass in Tragic Head-On Collision on Louisiana Highway 14 Saturday
KAPLAN, La. — A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the small community of Kaplan after two residents lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision on Louisiana Highway 14 on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The accident occurred just outside the city limits, leaving families and friends mourning the sudden loss of two beloved members of their town.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop I, the crash happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. when a sedan traveling eastbound on LA Highway 14 crossed the center line and collided head-on with an SUV traveling in the opposite direction. The violent impact left both vehicles severely damaged and resulted in the tragic passing of both drivers at the scene.
Authorities later identified one of the victims as Alexis Jackson, a Kaplan resident described by friends as kind, determined, and full of life. The other individual, also a Kaplan native, has not yet been publicly identified pending family notification. Emergency personnel, including the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kaplan Police Department, and Acadian Ambulance, responded quickly, but despite their best efforts, both individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Preliminary reports suggest that weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash, and investigators are working to determine what may have caused the driver to veer into the opposite lane. Authorities have not ruled out speed, distraction, or impairment as possible factors and are awaiting toxicology results as part of the ongoing investigation.
Traffic on Louisiana Highway 14 was temporarily closed for several hours Saturday night as law enforcement conducted accident reconstruction and cleared debris from the roadway. Drivers in the area were redirected to alternate routes as crews worked into the early morning hours.
Friends, family, and community members have since gathered to remember the two lives lost. A candlelight vigil is being planned near the crash site, where loved ones intend to place flowers, candles, and messages of remembrance. Those who knew Alexis Jackson described her as a joyful soul with a passion for helping others and a deep love for her hometown of Kaplan.
“Alexis had such a bright smile—she could light up any room,” said one family friend. “She cared deeply for people, and her loss will leave a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.”
Louisiana State Police have once again urged motorists to exercise caution and remain vigilant while driving, reminding the public that many of the most serious crashes occur on rural highways like LA 14. “Every life lost on our roadways is one too many,” a spokesperson said. “We urge drivers to stay alert, obey traffic laws, and never drive distracted or impaired.”
Funeral arrangements for Alexis Jackson and the second victim are pending and will be announced by their respective families. The Kaplan community continues to extend prayers and support to all affected by this devastating loss.
